Special Recognition

Caleb Truax and promoter Tony Grygelko - 2014

The Minnesota Boxing Hall of Fame from time to time will honor active contributors to the sport of boxing as part of its annual induction ceremonies. It is one way of uniting the current participants in the sport with those of the past being inducted or already part of the Hall of Fame ranks.

A fighter, manager or contributor to the sport must be retired from active duty, so to speak, for consideration as a Hall of Fame inductee, but there are those still participating who deserve recognition as well.

In addition to the 2014 Hall of Fame inductions on tonight’s program, the Hall also would like to recognize middleweight Caleb Truax and promoter Tony Grygelko for their contributions to the sport of boxing in the state of Minnesota and elsewhere.

Truax and Grygelko might be best described as a team. The Osseo middleweight has been promoted exclusively by Grygelko while compiling a 24-1-2 record that includes 14 knockouts.

Many of Truax’s fights have been staged at various sites in Minnesota under Grygelko’s Seconds Out Promotions, but Grygelko has combined on out-of-state bouts, too, in joint or co-promotions.

Grygelko has been described by colleagues as “passionate” about the sport of boxing and his promotional efforts in the sport. He has several ties with ESPN and Showtime connections that have resulted in televised bouts from local venues.

Those connections also serve him well in arranging spots for Truax on televised cards in other locations around the country.

Truax, for his part, has been described by officials who worked his bouts as always “cooperative,’’ always willing to abide by the rules and guidelines as set forth by state dictates and other mandates of the sport.

“When he fights, you can always expect to see a man prepared and in condition, ready to provide spectators with the entertainment they expect,’’ said one official. “He always conducts himself property in the ring and is a credit to the sport of boxing.’’

That’s not always an easy assignment during the heat of battle when tempers and egos sometimes intrude upon the activity taking place in the ring.

So, join with us tonight in honoring Tony Grygelko for his role in promoting the sport of boxing and maintaining a spot for the sport among Minnesota’s multiple other professional athletic events.

Join with us in celebrating Truax’s commendable record and in wishing him continued success in the ring, on various cards throughout Minnesota and elsewhere as his career continues to expand.
